Creative Edge
Edge Realty is proud to support “Common Threads: Folk, Bach and Beyond,” a salon-style concert that celebrates how music keeps us connected, courageous, and hopeful. As a sponsor, we see this event as more than an evening out—it’s a living example of the community, culture, and creativity that make a place feel like home.
A salon where art, dance, and community meet
Hosted at the Jamestown Arts Center, “Common Threads” brings Grammy-winning Canadian cellist Arlen Hlusko back to Rhode Island for an intimate afternoon of music and movement. In true salon spirit, the performance unfolds in a creative hall rather than a traditional concert hall, inviting closer conversation between artists and audience. For Edge Realty, that atmosphere mirrors how we think about spaces: not just as buildings, but as rooms where people come together to share stories, ideas, and experiences.
Throughout the program, Boston-based dancer Emily Jerant Hendrickson joins select pieces, allowing movement and music to converse in real time. Her background as a professional performer and assistant professor of dance at Boston Conservatory at Berklee adds another layer of artistry to the experience, turning the afternoon into a truly multi-sensory encounter.
A musical journey from folk to Bach and beyond
“Common Threads: Folk, Bach, and Beyond” is designed as a solo recital that asks how music can sustain connection across time, place, and culture. Arlen Hlusko curates a folk-inspired journey that moves between beloved traditional melodies and groundbreaking concert works, always returning to the shared humanity at the heart of listening together.
The program opens with an intimate improvisation on the traditional song “Little Birdie” (arr. Frankie Carr), setting a tone of warmth and familiarity. From there, the music steps into the radiant world of J.S. Bach with the Prelude from Suite No. 6 for solo cello, followed by Leyla McCalla’s reflective “Meditation No. 1.” Along the way, audience favorites like “Shenandoah” (Traditional, arr. Arlen Hlusko) and “Scarborough Fair” (Traditional, arr. Frankie Carr) appear alongside powerful contemporary voices, including George Crumb’s iconic “Sonata for Solo Cello” and the fiery first movement of Zoltán Kodály’s Sonata for Solo Cello, Op. 8—rooted in Hungarian folk traditions and renowned for expanding the instrument’s expressive possibilities.
Why this matters to Edge Realty
At Edge Realty, we believe great communities are built on more than beautiful properties—they are built on shared experiences that stay with you long after the event ends. Supporting “Common Threads” aligns with our Creative Edge vision of championing art, culture, and collaboration wherever we work. Just as this program weaves together folk songs, Bach, and contemporary works, we aim to weave together people, neighborhoods, and lifestyles into a cohesive, inspiring whole.
We see the cello’s voice—shifting from a whispered folk tune to a bold, modern sound—as a metaphor for how places evolve while honoring their roots. Jamestown Arts Center’s creative halls, filled with music, dance, and conversation, reflect the kind of vibrant, human-centered environments we strive to foster through every project and partnership.
Experience the salon spirit
Guests at “Common Threads” can look forward to more than just a concert ticket. The Jamestown Arts Center is offering a cash bar and small bites, creating an easy, relaxed setting for conversation before and after the performance. Students and military attendees receive a 10% discount with special codes at checkout, underscoring the event’s inclusive, community-first philosophy.
As a sponsor, Edge Realty is honored to stand alongside Puddingstone Music and the Jamestown Arts Center in bringing this afternoon to life. If you join us at “Common Threads: Folk, Bach and Beyond,” we hope you’ll feel what inspires our work every day: the power of thoughtfully designed spaces, shared cultural experiences, and the enduring connections that turn a location into a place you truly love to call home.
