Aquidneck Grower’s Market
Aquidneck Community Table's (ACT) winter market is held on Saturday mornings at Stoneacre Garden at 151 Swineburne Row in Newport. The market hours are 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM from April 6 - April 27.
Aquidneck Community Table’s Growers Markets provide easy access to seasonal, regionally-grown food and greater awareness of the benefits of eating fresh local foods for our health, the strength of our local economy, the viability of agricultural life, and the future of our earth.
The marketplaces feature both organic and conventionally-grown products that include fresh vegetables, cut flowers, herbs, fruit, plants, eggs, breads, baked goods, meats, seafood, cheese, salsa and prepared foods such as soups, vegan foods, Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern cuisine. All markets feature a changing roster of local artisans and food businesses.
More on the Aquidneck Community Table
Aquidneck Community Table’s Growers Markets participate in the Fresh Bucks system that allows customers to buy market tokens with EBT cards for purchasing from all vendors. The same system allows them to offer Bonus Bucks (an additional $5 free for every $5 withdrawn) for fruit and vegetables to SNAP program customers. Many market vendors are also able to accept WIC and Senior Citizen vouchers; check their Welcome Stall to learn more.
Their efforts to keep reusable material out of the municipal waste stream is supported by sales of their market tote bags — which saves using plastic bags, now banned on Aquidneck Island. ACT fully supports efforts to reduce single-use material. They provide a Bag Share Bin at their markets, for those who forgot to bring their reusable bags. They are always accepting reusable bag donations. Please bring donations to the market welcome stall at any market.
During the summer market season, they offer a free kid’s program, The Food Explorers, where children can sample the fresh fruit or vegetable of the week and gather stamps to add to their Food Passport!
About the Aquidneck Community Table
To grow a healthy local food system, accessible to all on our island.
We work in many ways to build a vibrant food system on Aquidneck Island: distribution of fresh foods at our farmers markets, education in school and community gardens, programs that inspire young people to love healthy foods, and an annual challenge to eat locally to benefit community health and our regional economy.
Aquidneck Community Table, or "ACT," brings together partners in our community to collectively build a healthy future, generating events and discussion to explore solutions that strengthen the island’s food system, support the local economy and expand access to fresh healthy food for everyone
